Pen and ink offers strong, intense colour combined with a translucent effect. Now you can enjoy these distinctive qualities in an easy to use pencil. Inktense has a highly blendable texture and comes in a range of jewel-like colours, plus a non-soluble outliner which allows you to draw outlines that are permanent, even when water is applied.

Apply pure, vibrant dry colour then wash the pigment out completely to leave an ink-like effect. Once dry, the colour is permanent and can be worked over with other media. The possibilities are endless, the results stunning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by juanita from Fantastic for travel art journals! I use the InkTense pencils for travel art journals and quick Plein Air outings. I can quickly capture my subject and if time doesn't permit, I can later add water to the work in the hotel room or my studio. Fantastic for traveling as pencils are light in weight and there is no chance of spills/leaks like paint tubes. I created a color chart on watercolor paper with water applied to ink as it is difficult to know the true colors by looking at the pencil lead. Only negative is that the name of color is not easily read on the pencil and the printing wears off after use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Inktense Water Soluble Colored Pencils Highly pigmented. Perfect for correcting weak places in a watercolor. More precise control than adding color with a brush and less chance of ruining the watercolor painting by overpainting. Travels well with no mess. I would like it better if the entire pencil exterior was color coded instead of just the end cap. Sometimes it takes me awhile to find the right pencil, but this is a small matter. I have bought sets of the Inktense pencils twice. I also have two other sets of watercolor pencils, but the Inktense pencils are the ones I prefer and use most often. Since I bought the Inktense pencils, I am less daunted by starting a watercolor painting knowing, that should I get areas that are too light or without enough contrast, that I can correct them without leaving watermarks and puddles of mud. I have not yet tried them as the only source of color in a painting, but I probably will.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Absolutely love these! These are so quick and easy to use...I even take Q-Tips to use instead of brushes...makes the work very immediate. I don't have to use a lot of the pencil because the color is very intense and explodes when applying water. It takes a little time to learn to control where you apply the water and the "brush stroke" direction. I also love the fact that once the wetted pencil dries, it is permanent so you can lay details over washes without muddying your work. The pencils are spendy but last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stampinonwheels from Incredible color and so easy to work with I bought a small set a few months back, the one with the peacock on the tin. I do a lot of art journaling and they are magic for that kind of work. I know that once they are dry, they are permanent so I can work over them without destroying anything. From fine detailing to an all over wash, these perform beautifully. I will be back for a bigger set soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dulcimer from Unique product......fun to use! I purchased the Derwent Inktense pencil set to use along with my other full size sets of colored pencils. The Derwent packaging is very attractive with an artist's rendition of a peacock using the Inktense pencils. The flat case is protective metal, with each pencil nestled in its own slot in two plastic lift out trays. After initially playing with the pencils and laying down lines of color to gauge the solubility of the pigment I was pleased to find that the transparency of the Derwent colors and fluid movement of the dissolved pigment mimicked watercolors. Additonally, I could pick up areas of color with a tissue or a paintbrush to varying degrees BEFORE the paper support dried. After that the color was permanent. I found a wonderful new medium which I can overlay with another layer of color or use with non-soluble pencils for pleasing textures and a mixed media look. Try these pencils and the solid Derwent Inktense colorsticks on silk or other cloth as well. Great product.
