The Carolina easel is has a firm quad base (22"x24") and can accommodate canvases up to 84" high! Due to its design you can work comfortably sitting or standing. Includes a 22" utility shelf for keeping your most used supplies up front. Note that the twin rear stabilizer bars allow for back angle adjustment and the rubber canvas grips will hold stretched canvas or panels in place without marring.

Twin rear stabilizers allow for a wide range of painting angles. This is important to reduce glare on the painting surface and for comfortable painting too.

I have been teaching myself to paint in oils for a couple of years now, and have especially enjoyed painting with palette knives. This easel is sturdy enough for even the most vigorous palette-knifery, and very easy to adjust. I chose this one mainly because of the fact that the mast moves independently from the tray. Because I only have 8 foot ceilings, a lot of other easels would have gouged a hole through the roof had I raised the tray high enough to paint a small panel while standing. The easel has the ability to mount a canvas securely between little rubber nubs at the top and bottom so that the entire face of the canvas is exposed. The whole thing is very sturdy beechwood, very well made and designed, and takes less than 3 minutes to have it up and ready to go right out of the box. There was a rather large hole kicked in my box upon delivery, but since it is mostly assembled already, there were no screws or other parts that would have been missing. Everything I needed was already attached to the easel. If I ever need to move it out of the way, it can “easely” be folded flat and stored behind my door. My only complaint was that at first, it smelled strongly of Danish oil. At first I didn’t like the smell, since it is in my bedroom, but after awhile it didn’t bother me, in fact I rather liked it. It has been a month or so now, though and the smell has almost completely subsided. I am very pleased with this Carolina Easel, I would have cheerfully paid twice as much for it.

This easel is beautiful, well-made with good wood, and very stable, which I appreciate very much, and is easy to make larger or smaller, and has a place for your brushes. Unfortunately, I have not used it yet, because of my living situation, but I can't wait. It is in storage right now. Also, one of the gold plates was missing, and was sent to me, to stabilize it, but I don't see a place to lay it. The other plate had a little groove to lay it in there, but not the other one. Can you tell me where it is supposed to go?

Does the bottom canvas support bar move independently of the top mast/canvas holder?  e.g., If I wanted to place my canvas 5' off the floor, does that move the mast up?

The bottom easel tray moves independently of the mast and easel holder. The bottom tray does not cause those things to move.

Yes, this easel can be used in a room with 7-foot ceilings. The minimum height of the easel is 5 feet and the maximum easel hight with the mast fully extended is 8.5 feet.
