Claessens has a reputation built on quality and craftsmanship. Each Claessens canvas passes through its own unique manufacturing process before being inspected. Quality control carefully examines the canvas by hand for faults and removes any abnormally thick threads. Next, two layers of synthetic adhesive are applied. Universal acrylic primed canvases are coated twice with an acrylic-base that is troweled on expertly by hand with a large knife. Each layer is dried on the canvas in a warm-air oven. This produces a perfectly cured, completely dry canvas. The Universal priming is designed to allow for 50% absorbency, making it suitable for all media types.

This produces a perfectly cured, completely dry canvas. The Universal priming is designed to allow for 50% absorbency, making it suitable for all media types.
The finished canvases are again carefully inspected one last time before they are placed on rolls and stocked in the warehouse. There, the rolls are put into boxes or tubes for shipping. These stringent, painstaking steps create an archival, exceptional linen canvas worthy of your finest masterpiece!
