Supplies, information and details for: V2026 Underpainting Secrets Taught by Mike Rooney

Date/Time: Wednesday, November 11, 2020 - 5 pm - 8 pm. To have colorful paintings, you have to start them that way. In this workshop, Mike Rooney, one of North Carolina's top workshop instructors, will show you how to lay down pure, bright acrylic colors he calls "crazy color"underpainting, based on the Cape Cod School of Art technique. Then you'll learn tricks and tips to adjust the underpainting in stages to get the drawing, values, and temperature correct before finishing the painting (on top of that) using broken color, scumbling, and washes of transparent, semi-transparent, and opaque color. This method imitates the shimmering effect that light has on objects that Impressionists have tried to capture since Monet. There will be a demo by Mike, and tons of hands-on by students. This class will revolutionize your painting by giving you a looser, brighter, more colorful, and sun-filled paintings. *Other suggested items to have on hand: Rags, a smartphone that has photos on it with good light and shadow pattern (the stark difference between what's being struck by the light and what's in shadow). Have access to a couple of magazines like People of Better Homes and Gardens for a painting exercise we will cover.
