Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but confusing Bought this a s a gift for my wife, who is block printing with wood, not linoleum. There was very little information about it and whether it would or wouldn't work with Wood. There was no instructions or manual that came with it. Using it is completely trial and error. Should you use the blanket, not use the blanket with wood????

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Table top press This is a solid little press, that works about as well as you would hope. It cannot compare to a full sized intaglio press, but it gets the job done. Place on silicon rubber pads to prevent moving Pros- Solid build non nonsense design, was able to produce reasonable copper etching plate print. You will have to experiment to learn how to determine pressure and especially how to push base plate and mat/paper together to get traction on lower roller. Took about six tries to get to print quality in picture Cons- Zero directions or recommendations for various uses. Really unforgivable for a manufacturer. Small roller diameter starts to curl copper plates after a few runs. Very difficult to get plate and roller to engage. Rust patches on upper roller Recommendations- Texture the underside of plate to easily engage lower roller include directions/recomendations

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best purchase I just bought the etching press to give a professional class on engraving at Chicago from México and it´s been the best purchase so far. Im bringing it with me at Guanajuato. This has been my fist purchase at Jerry´s and its been wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As promised. Great product for low budget artists. Excellent press for the price. FYI: though it's heavy weight keeps it basically stable, for added grip I put a non-skid rubber mat underneath...no need to clamp to work surface. The mat keeps it secure, and truly makes the unit portable since you are not limited to work surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Cute and sturdy little press. Price wise, it's a very good deal (especially at a discount price) and I am happy to own it. It enables me to work at home instead of running to the local art association to print small formats, and of course I will go there to print larger formats. My spouse's health is not that great, and I am happy to be available at home if he needs me. Although there is minimal assembly, this press is not for beginners unless the person is always using only one technique such as lino printing: once the appropriate pressure level is set, it is good forever. In my case, I am using several techniques (such as collagraphy on cardboard, etching on acétates as well as lino and others) which require various pressure levels adjustments. As there are no instruction book nor pressure level adjustment guide, some basic knowledge of press components and how they work would be useful. Therefore, I am patiently making my own instruction booklet based on neverending tests :). I did not build a platform to attach underneath the press. In several tests at a high pressure level, I have used an antisliding material underneath the press and it seems to fill the bill quite well even though I used a lot of pressure. For techniques such as collagraphy which require a lot of pressure, I would recommend to add some form of padding blanket. I have made two very quick printing tests (quite promising) and soon will make real prints. I am sure I will enjoy this press for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Small Printing Press I purchased this for my husband as a Holiday gift. He has a degree in printing so, I was a bit concerned that it might be too cheap to create small prints. It is fantastic and, he loves it! Perfect for small print plates. The largest he's used is 5x7 anything larger and, this press probably won't be a great buy. He mounted it to a table and rigged L brackets to secure the press. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to print small plates.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes Printing Small Items Easier I bought this press about a month ago, but did not get a chance to use it until recently. The press works but need to be mounted on a table for best results. It tends to move around while turning the handle unless it is mounted and attached to a sturdy table.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a good starter press, basic mechanism This little press serves me well for polyester plate lithography. I would give it five stars for that. One would need to employ adaptive measures to use a rigid plate (intaglio, dry point) becasue the roller mechanism isn't designed to grasp both the press bed and admit that much of a raised surface. I haven't tried these things but would simply use a blank plate ahead of the image plate to compensate. The mechanism is pretty much a wringer assembly with adjustable pressure, mounted to a frame that will allow a press bed to pass between. The lower roller is knurled to provide extra traction. Low profile materials pass through the press pretty easily. The mechanism delivers consistent pressure effective to deliver good results. The manufacture is Chinese. It's simple and sturdy in construction. There is no instruction book or owner's manual, but none is really needed. A little bit of up set up and prep is needed before the first use. The press requires mounting to a sationary platform. Mine is fastened to a section of 1 x 12 which can be clamped to any table (and moved about). A bit of silicone lubricant helps to assure smooth operation of the rollers. Discounted from list, it's a solid good buy.

Tried using it with white felt blanket it comes with. Printing an aluminum drypoint but had repeated issue as metal base slides but felt stops or gets caught under roller. This causes paper and plate to shift as well-more blankets needed??

Asked by: Shumph
I tried adding another felt blanket and also tried adding a layer of thin foam (cut a thin yoga mat). The problem is still there. Major slipping as base slides but top layers just get stuck under top roller. Very frustrating!  I'm surprised no one else has this problem. I've worked on many etching presses--top of the line and cheaper ones like this model.

I see the maximum roller opening is 1 inch. Could I print with American Type High type, which I read is .918 inches high?

Asked by: gfreeman
As long as the plate can fit within the rollers with room for the felt, paper, and aluminum plate then you can use this print plate. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I am contemplating purchasing this press for block printing. Could you confirm that it would work with softoleum rubber blocks which are thicker than linoleum. Are they also cheaper shipping rates to Canada? TIA
