Logan has revamped their popular Simplex Plus mat cutter series to create the new, multi-functional Simplex Elite line! This all-in-one tool serves to size mat board and foam core, cut bevel or straight edge mats, trim boards and papers, and even cut glass and acrylic plexi! The Simplex Elite is available in either 40" or 60" models, and is securely base-board mounted for long term use. It features a hinging guide rail with production stops, parallel mat guide in aluminum channels, a 27" squaring arm with stop and an optional flush cut squaring arm. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, components not so good Even though I am happy with this product now that I understand it's character, ( I do love having the angle bar, it has saved some messed up mats! Nonetheless, it could use some tweaking. Getting the angle bar square in the set up possess could be easier- being able to adjust the screws to keep it square while tightening it down would be useful. (I had to add a wedge in the grove where it lays to keep the tightening bracket from pushing it out of square.) As for the mat cutter... I don't see any reason to have a spring on it, it makes it more complicated to keep a consistent pressure on it while cutting. I am still using the one I have from my previous Logan cutter. I also use my other bevel cutter from it... I just like the quality of it better. (It was made in the USA!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product with excellent instruction DVD provides excellent instructions for the amateur and the ability to cut glass, foam board etc. is another plus. I have been cutting mats by hand in the past and this coupled with the great price makes this an incredible buy. First mat I cut came out perfect! This cutter makes a professional out of a novice immediately. Just sorry I waited so long to purchase this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Logan 750-1 I use the Logan to cut mats and backing for photographs and it does an excellent job of doing what it is supposed to do. Two problems are that if it doesn't come square, it's very difficult to square because the squaring screws are small and almost impossible to get to. I use paper wedges to square it. The second problem is that you have to use what they call a slip sheet under the mat when doing bevel cuts. This is hard to remember to do and a pain to do it anyway. They need to find a fix for this if they want to get a perfect score.

This machine is outstanding for cutting mat board to size and for making great beveled cuts. Would have given it 5 starts, except the paper trimmer does not work as well as I had expected...leaves the last inch or so of paper uncut. Otherwise, it's a wonderful machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Large Format Cutter I'm an experienced hobbyist that has been custom matting artwork for years. I purchased the 760-1 to cut oversize mats for large pieces of art. It produces laser-striaght bevel cuts with sharp corners on large matboard with ease. The production stops & assortment of cutting accessories (straight, bevel, 8-ply bevel, paper, plexi, glass) are a huge improvement over previous models. There are a few issues though. NOTHING on this cutter was aligned from the factory. I had to square the cutting bar to the hinges to the base unlike previous logan mat cutters I've owned which were bascially squared from the factory. This was a time-consuming process to get it right so the measurements on the squaring arm & stops were correct while everything was aligned. A minor issue - the squaring arm isn't long enough to measure for cuts on large matboard so you have to do that manually. Also, with large matboard, you'll need something to keep it level with the base while you make your cuts. I purchased a large piece of melamine shelving material 1" thick and it works great. I just lay it on my work surface next to the mat cutter base and it helps to keep the matboard flat while cutting. Lastly, this thing is HUGE - make sure you have the space for it before purchasing.
