Watercolorists have always loved Mongoose hair not for the color of its hair but for the special properties this hair has!

Mongoose hair is stronger than sable or squirrel. This reduces the wear and tear on textured watercolor surfaces and reduces the breaking of the ends of hair that can wear off and get into paintings when using hairs such as squirrel. Mongoose is absorbent but not bloating like squirrel this allows for a more controlled stroke and is a great compromise between squirrel and synthetic brushes.

Like with all soft hair brushes Vemeer brushes hold color well and allow for even lay down in the finest detail to vivid washes. With the absence of choices in liner choices the Vemeer liner will get you more color than a synthetic and a nice natural feel and long line.

Vemeer allows you to combine the practical nature of each natural hair. Staying strictly with natural hair you will find that no matter which hair you use, the delivery of color is more consistent and longer due to the ability of hair to absorb moisture.

  • Full bodied for handling any paint
  • Soft feel for blending and glazing
  • Shapes to a fine point or fine edge
  • Fine hair shows minimal brush strokes
  • Great for watercolor, gouache and acrylic
  • Short, wine color, lacquered wood handles
  • Seamless, nickel-plated brass ferrules
  • Superb for all classical techniques in oil color
  • Positive brush response through each stroke

Old Masters quality brushes complement bristle hair and red sable hair brushes and offer the advantages of a finer and softer feel with greater line control over bristle and more durability, a firmer feel and greater economy over sable. Brush heads are hand cupped and tied by a skilled craftsperson one at a time in the traditional old world method.

Every aspect of the brush is hand-made and each is inspected to insure proper resiliency with proper shape and working qualities. The special hair in each brush is delicate enough for subtle blends and glazing yet firm enough for layering thick impasto strokes.

(Please note synthetic Mongoose is basically is a synthetic and has none of the properties of its namesake.)
