Rated 4 out of 5 by Artchick57 from Well balanced Purchased to accommodate arthritis in fingers. It's not as heavy as a couple of other lead holders, and is balanced in my hand. My one issue is the indented finger grip, as it is a bit deeper than what I want in a drawing tool. Still, a decent lead holder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Still 'old' plastic jacketed Koh-I-Nor I've used this type of 5.6mm holder for about 25 years. When I read it described as 'metal' I was hoping that it meant the return of the original--completely metal--holder I bought back then (and I believe was discontinued). It had PERFECT weight and balance and even a built in sharpener in the top! I treasured it but, alas, it was lost in a flood last year. This is the old design plastic jacketed Koh-I-Noor that I've also used for years. It's very, very good, but not that great old instrument I used to have. Still, I'm very happy to have it (and the lead used in it) again.

Wanted a wooden one like I'd seen watercolorist Eric Weigardt use in a workshop. He didn't know where he got it, and it was probably old. Found the Cretacolor natural wood one which is round and love it. Has a better feel and balance. Similar to Eric's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CA Teacher from Comfortable contoured grip; Sturdy Jerry's has the best price for these. Beautiful and inexpensive option for a 5.6 mm pencil / lead holder. I use them as a "drylighter" highlighter. They feel nice in the hand. I love mine and am happy I bought 2 of them and could see owning several more, each with a different color. It is great as a highlighter/drylighter and would also be great for drawing. It is a very sturdy pencil I take everywhere. With lead retracted it is 5 1/2 inches long. Widest part of the barrel is 5/8 inches and it narrows to 7/16 inch at the grip point. The clutch mechanism works great. The "jaws" open wide when the button is pressed, so I put my hand under the tip area to make sure the lead does not fall out. The wood of the Cretacolor is pale unstained wood with minimal finishing. There is just a tiny hint of a slight finish having been added. The contour shape is extremely comfortable. I use Levenger yellow 5.6 mm True Writer Clutch Pencil Refills in my Cretacolor. Refills in the 5.6mm size are a bit hard to find but Levenger offers packages of 6 bright yellow or a selection of 3 graphite, 1 pink, 1 green, 1 yellow. I really like the yellow which I "color" on the way you might with a colored pencil. I use this for textbook highlighting and notes because it never ever bleeds through to the other side and I am able to control exactly what I want highlighted. The brightness is similar to liquid highlighters but it is so much superior due to lack of bleeding and control over what part is highlighted and it erasable. The graphite might be nice for some sort of drawing but the large lead size means a sharpener would be needed if a point were required. I could envision having several with different colors of refill.
