does this pencil sharpener work with caran d'ache luminance colored pencils, they do not fit in my office pro battery operated sharpener

I purchased one of these with my last order. It doesn't work. Yes, I put batteries in. It won't sharpen. Won't even remove any wood from a regular school pencil. Is there a trick to it? Any other complaints about these? It's not worth returning.
