Daniel Smith Acrylic Gesso - Iridescent Gold, 16 ozSave Up to40%Off list
Starting At: 10.57
Iridescent Professional quality gesso for oil and acrylic painters Daniel Smith Acrylic Gesso allows you to create an archival, lightfast painting surface. Thick yet brush-able, it spreads smoothly, and a little goes a long way. Only two coats of the heavily pigmented gesso are needed to coat a canvas or panel. The professional-grade gesso is available in Titanium White, Transparent, or Iridescent Gold. Titanium White Gesso is opaque and made with the same pigment that Daniel Smith uses in its Original Oils. Transparent Gesso is excellent for mixed media work because it allows the color or pattern of your substrate to show through. Iridescent Gold Gesso is made with Mica and iron oxides. It has a gorgeous metallic sheen that gives transparent paints a golden glow. Imagine a painting with metallic gold in the background! Key Features: * Easy to open and close jar * Thick yet spreads smoothly, a little goes a long way * Quick-drying and self-leveling * Archival and lightfast * Professional acrylic emulsion is flexible and durable * Free of the oil acids that deteriorate cotton and linen * Cleans up easily with soap and water Perfect For: * Absorbent surfaces like canvas, paper, wood, or plaster * Painting with oils, alkyds, and acrylics * Creating a solid background * Professional artists * Providing a sealed, stabilized surface If desired, you can thin the gesso with a little bit of water (no more than 10%). It's important to clean your brushes and palette knives with soap and water immediately after use. Over time the heavy Mica particles in this ground will sink to the bottom of the container. Before application, you should mix the gesso with a palette knife to reincorporate the Mica back into the gesso. See More -
Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground - Titanium White, 16ozSave Up to40%Off list
Starting At: 8.86
White Paint with watercolors on any surface! You can use watercolors on any surface with Daniel Smith's Watercolor Ground! After applying the Ground you can paint with watercolors on wood, plaster, metal, plastic, glass, and fabric! Simply brush the Watercolor Ground on and within 24 hours the surface will be transformed into an exciting absorbent ground for watercolor! If you make a mistake, rescue your painting with Titanium White Watercolor Ground the “white out” for artists that allows you to cover up and start over with a fresh white surface. You can use one of the colored Grounds to create surface texture or use the Transparent Watercolor Ground which allows the surface of your substrate, for example, wood grain or decorative paper, to show through when you paint over with watercolors. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground creates a soft, absorbent watercolor surface with a slightly cottony texture that’s similar to cold press paper. With this breakthrough archival-quality ground, artists can create new work on any surface, rescue flawed paintings, lift and scrub without damaging the painting surface, and frame without glass. There’s really no end to what can be done! Key Features:* Absorbent watercolor ground* Works on multiple surfaces* Archival and acid-free.* Holds up to vigorous scrubbing Perfect For:* Watercolor Artists* Mixed media applications* Framing without Glass The beauty of watercolor is transparency and transparency is what gives watercolor paintings their distinctive clarity, luminosity, and realism. Now, with DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground, artists can get this unique visual quality on any surface they choose: * Wood & Plaster* Canvas & Masonite* All types of paper* Fabric* Glass & Plexiglass* Metal* Plastic* Stone & Masonry Preparation Absorbent or semi-absorbent surfaces require no special prep before brushing on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground. These include paper, canvas and other fabrics, wood, plaster, shells, and hardboard. Non-absorbent surfaces such as metal, plastic or glass should be lightly abraded with sandpaper or steel wool before brushing on the Watercolor Ground. Application We recommend using Watercolor Ground straight from the container. It has a thick, brushable consistency. Use a soft-haired synthetic brush, foam brush or foam roller for a smoother finish, or a hog bristle brush for a more textured finish. The ground is highly pigmented so one coat will cover most surfaces; very absorbent surfaces such as unfinished softwood may require two coats, allowing the first coat to cure before adding the second. Wash brushes immediately after use. TIP – when using the Watercolor Ground to Rescue a Painting, thin some Watercolor Ground in a small dish with up to 10% of water and use a soft brush like a hake brush to blend the edges. Curing Let Watercolor Ground dry and cure for at least 24 hours. This allows it to attain the right degree of absorption. Painting DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground works beautifully with watercolors and thinned acrylics. Because it creates a surface more absorbent than paper, you will want to use less water with your paint. Experiment and see what works best for you. It also works beautifully with DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid. Finishing As with all watercolors, your work on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground will need to be fixed if it will not be framed behind glass. We suggest spraying with a high quality, Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish with UVLS to protect your painting. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Grounds give artists more freedom to paint with their watercolors; on any surface, rescue a watercolor painting and add more creative opportunities for painting with watercolors! …Liquid Pigments.* Transparent Base - This medium is Akua Intaglio Ink without the pigment. Adding Akua Liquid Pigment to Transparent Base will thicken Akua Liquid Pigment and create new intaglio or relief colors. Adding Akua Intaglio ink to this base will increase ink transparency. It is a light… Expand the creative possibilities of Akua Inks with Akua Mediums! These Akua Mediums are perfect for altering the creative properties of Akua Intaglio Inks and Akua Liquid Pigments. Whether you require a thinner or thicker consistency, a longer or shorter open time, or the ability to create "ghost prints", these mediums have you covered! Several of these mediums can be used with both Akua Intaglio Inks and Akua Liquid Pigments.* Blending Medium - It is used to thin ink for brushwork, wash effects or use it as a resist for viscosity monotypes. It is a clear, colorless liquid. It cleans up easily with water. This medium can be use with both Akua Liquid Pigments and Akua Intaglio Inks.* Extender - It is used to thin Akua Liquid Pigment if it has become too thick due to an extended open time. It is a thick liquid in consistency, and transparent in color. This medium can only be used with Akua Liquid Pigments.* Mag Mix (Ink Stiffener) - This medium was formerly called Mag Mix. When mixed with Akua Intaglio, this medium adds depth and stiffens the ink. It is clear/white in color with a very stiff consistency. Mag Mix cleans up easily with liquid dish detergent. This medium can only be used with Akua Intaglio Inks.* Pigment Retarder - This medium has two purposes. First, it helps transfer ink onto dry paper when a few drops are mixed into Akua Liquid Pigments. Secondly, it also extends the working time of Akua Liquid Pigments. It is a clear liquid, and cleans up easily with water. This medium can only be used with Akua Liquid Pigments.* Pigment Tack Thickener - This medium thickens Akua Liquid Pigment for heavier roll-up applications. It's consistency is not as thick as Transparent Base or Akua Intaglio ink. It is medium amber in color, has a thick consistency, and cleans up easily with soapy water. This medium can only be used with Akua Liquid Pigments.* Release Agent - This medium has three purposes. First, it is required to release Akua Liquid Pigment brushwork from plate to paper when hand-printing monotypes with the Pin Press. Second, it is used for making ghost prints. A ghost print is the second print from a monotype plate that has been inked only one time. It is a lighter version of the same image. By rolling Release Agent over the plate, it helps to transfer the remaining ink off the plate and onto another sheet of paper. Third, it helps soften the metallic ink so it can easily transfer off the plate and onto the paper. Roll Akua Release Agent over the metallic ink that was applied to the plate. It looks white in the jar but rolls up clear and colorless. It has a soft, buttery consistency and cleans up easily with liquid dish detergent. This medium can be used with Akua Intaglio Inks and Akua Liquid Pigments.* Transparent Base - This medium is Akua Intaglio Ink without the pigment. Adding Akua Liquid Pigment to Transparent Base will thicken Akua Liquid Pigment and create new intaglio or relief colors. Adding Akua Intaglio ink to this base will increase ink transparency. It is a light amber in color and has a thick consistency. This medium can be used with Akua Intaglio Inks and Akua Liquid Pigments. See More -

During the manufacturing process, great care is taken to avoid overworking the pigment. The amount of time required for the milling process varies for each color – anywhere from six hours to three days. The amount of oil required for each pigment varies because each pigment absorbs at a different rate. Richeson uses only pure, artist-grade, dry pigments. The finest grade of alkali-refined linseed oil is used to make non-yellowing colors. This type of oil is well-known for its excellent color stability. “Straw" in color, the oil has a minimal effect on pigment colorization and will not darken with age. Certain colors, such as whites, flesh colors, ice blue, and brilliant yellow light, use safflower oil. With these sensitive pigments that yellow easily, safflower oil produces a much better non-yellowing color. Where appropriate, we use a blend of linseed and safflower oil, producing the best possible finished product. Click on the item number to view the contents of each set. See More -

Red Golden Heavy Body Acrylic Paints- Professionally Loved Acrylics! The original line of paints! GOLDEN Heavy Body acrylic paints are known to be exceptionally smooth with a thick, buttery consistency and contain the largest assortment of unique pure pigments in a 100% acrylic emulsion vehicle available to the professional artist. These colors offer excellent permanency and lightfastness. There are no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes added. Each Heavy Body acrylic color is formulated differently depending on the nature of the pigment. Colors that tolerate higher pigment "loads" dry to a more opaque, matte finish. Colors that are more reactive and do not accept high pigment loading, dry to a glossy finish and tend to be more transparent. Heavy Body colors contain no additives, such as matting agents, therefore the gloss of each color will be different. Key Features:* Exceptionally smooth, rich, buttery consistency* Dries quickly, permanent and archival in quality* Ability to "stand up" and retain brush strokes* All HB colors are thixotropic in nature* Retain excellent flexibility when dry, diminishing the possibility of cracking* Heavy Body viscosity can also be reduced successfully with water* No flattening agents* No opacifiers added to colors* Clearest and cleanest quality* 101 different colors, shades and tints* 30 colors are mixture colors, the rest of produced from single, unique pigments* Concentrated/Chemically Pure Cadmiums Perfect For:* Approved for professional artist* 100% acrylic binder* Freeze-thaw stability* "stand up" and retain brush strokes or palette knife marks on the canvas* Largest assortment of unique pure pigments* There are no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes added* Can be mixed with all of our GOLDEN Mediums, Gels and other paint lines C.P. Cadmiums = A grade that has a high concentration of cadmium and is considered the highest quality. The C.P. designation has been associated with both “Chemically Pure” and "Concentrated Pigment". Which translation you come across will often depend on the source and context. In terms of “(CC)”, it refers to “Concentrated Cadmium” and was adopted by the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) as a way to differentiate higher quality cadmiums from lesser quality cadmium-barium pigments. All Heavy Body colors are thixotropic in nature This means that when brushing or stirring, the paints actually lose viscosity and feel much thinner. The faster the paints are moving, the thinner they feel. Returned to a state of rest, the paints gradually increase in thickness until they are again restored to their formulated viscosity. The Heavy Body line of acrylics contains no additional flattening agents, opacifiers or other solids that might interfere with the clarity of our pigments Please note: The items on this page are available at the Best Lowest Price Possible and no further discounts can be applied.
