Resize images quickly and accurately — no math involved!

For centuries artists have been developing ways to correctly enlarge, reduce, and transfer images without destroying the proportions between them. From complicated camera-like apparatuses to simpler grids and caliper-like instruments, getting accurate measurements and proportions has always been a true artistic concern. The new Acurit Proportioner is designed to do just that: use it to correctly transfer proportions between an object and your drawing, without ever having to pick up a calculator! The Proportioner does all the math for you with just a turn of the knob!

The Acurit Proportioner can be used to ensure facial features in a portrait are in correct relation to one another; to judge the heights of buildings as opposed to the trees next to them; to enlarge technical drawings or reduce illustrations — anything in which the scale of the original reference must be preserved. You don't need to understand the mathematics behind proportions in order to use this ingenious tool: simply set the initial scale and let the Proportioner do the rest! Consisting of 2 indicators, one for the reference object and one for the transferred image, the Proportioner can be easily set to any proportion ratio by rotating the knob (without depressing) until the reference indicators line up with two fixed points — say, the eyes in a portrait image. Then depress and rotate the knob again to set the distance between the transfer indicators — how far apart you’d like the eyes to be in your drawing. The Proportioner will store this set proportion ratio for you, allowing you to easily transfer further points — nose, mouth, and so on in our portrait example — while retaining the exact scale!

Sturdier than a pantograph, more accurate than a grid, the Proportioner is also the perfect tool for the plein air artist! Unlike bulky opaque projectors that require electricity and darkness to operate correctly, the Acurit Proportioner can be taken out of the studio and into the field for any artwork drawn from life! So stop the guesswork, freehand drawing, and using clunky equipment: ensure all your artwork proportions are exactly to scale with the new Acurit Proportioner!

Acurit Proportioner is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worth a try, but has some drawbacks. I've no doubt that some will find this proportioner to be very useful, but it didn't work well for me. The tool itself is a bit unwieldy/heavy. It might be helpful in the studio, but I wouldn't think of taking it on location. Holding it up against an easel would also be awkward; it seems to be most effective on a flat or slightly angled surface. Also, figuring out the mechanics of the tool was confusing, even with the videos. As there were no reviews posted when I purchased it, I decided to take a chance, but will send it back. I do think that it's worth trying and hope that others will have a better experience.
