When drawing out ideas, light boxes are grand since you can rework ideas with any translucent paper. Just take the former drawing and add and subtract on the new work surface by viewing through the original. This method gives the visual artist a tool to play with ideas without having to start from the beginning. If you want to do many pieces with the same general design concepts then working with a light box is idea.
If you're looking for paper that works well with this technique, try Clearprint 1000H. You can get pads that are just plain or with grids and there's even Isometric. Using a light box is a fun to explore your vision without losing anything in the process. Once you are finished, you can take your drawing and project them onto canvas, wall, board or archival paper with any Artograph Opaque Projector.
