Handmade in Russia, these canvases are prepared to professional standards by using a process that no domestic manufacturer offers. The process begins by squaring four heavy duty wood stretcher bars and stretching the finest unprimed linen over them, folding the excess linen under, which allows for future remounting.
Then, we follow the time tested, double-sizing and triple-priming process. We triple-prime with either an all media acid-free primer or oil based acid-free primer. Finished canvases are tight as a drum. You can tell that this process was used since even the staples have been primed over. The unique feel of an extra taught canvas provides a positive brush response with virtually any media, even when totally built up.
The result is an extremely taut and firm pre-stretched product which is unsurpassed for performance and archival properties. All units over 18" × 24" have an extra center support cross bar while units over 24" × 36" have a “criss-cross” bar assembly.
