Made in Italy
These beautifully made stretched canvases are for artists who put their heart and soul in their work and who insist on the very best materials and craftsmanship. Made by Italian artisans, these museum quality stretched canvases offer a true alternative over standard domestic products. These canvases are stretched with real turned edges onto the back of the stretcher frame and allow the artist to re-stretch finished pieces without compromising their art.
Pintura canvases also have a CPA coating on the back; this coating protects against rot from mold and mildew caused by moisture. An important feature if you, or someone who obtains your art, stores it in a basement or in areas with high humidity.
The canvas is specially cut from the roll and stretched tightly on the wood stretcher strips with the smooth side facing up and the lip facing down. Steel canvas tacks are then evenly spaced along the perimeter of the canvas creating a firm hold. The excess canvas is then folded onto the back in such a fashion to create expandable corners (these folds fan out naturally when the pegs are pushed into the corners, when tightening, without effecting the security of the stretch itself) and is stapled onto the back of the stretcher frame at a 45° angle allowing the canvas to lie flat without the use of too many staples (by using just a few staples the canvas maintains its strength and may be pulled without tearing if you need to re-stretch).
Finally, two long, full size "Easy-tap" wooden pegs are inserted into each corner. Pintura canvases are made of fine art quality materials including an acid-free, all media primer, and beautifully woven and prepared cotton and linen foundation materials. Individually shrink wrapped they remain fresh until you're ready to paint.
