GOLDEN's Gel Mediums can easily be manipulated by artists to achieve a great variety of effects and expressions. Even though acrylic colors are offered in various consistencies and finishes, the use of gels and molding pastes in conjunction with such colors will broaden the working properties and expand on the possible results.
Clear Granular Gel - Used to create textured surfaces. Extra-course, thick gel that dries to a hard film. Mix with other GOLDEN Gels or mediums to increase flexibility.
Clear Tar Resin Gel - Yields a pully, tar-like feel. This colorless gel has an extremely resinous and stringy consistency, which makes it feel very different than other acrylics. Useful for generating fine detailed lines by "dripping" it over surfaces, as it continuously flows from palette knives or other tools. Works best with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylic.
Extra-Heavy Gel - Increases body. Thicker consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors. The thickest of GOLDEN gels, along with the High Solid Gels. Excellent for holding peaks and impasto techniques. Dries translucent. Available in Matte, Gloss, and Semi-Gloss.
Extra Heavy Gel/Molding Paste Mix - Increases viscosity and builds surfaces. This unique medium is a blend of Extra-Heavy Gloss Gel and Molding Paste.
Garnet Gel - For textural effects. This very unusual product, made with Almandnie Garnet, can be mixed to create textural effects or use naturally for unusual grounds. Available in Fine, Course and Extra Course.
Glass Bead Gel - Coarse textured medium that holds peaks. Made with genuine glass beads, its unique visual effect—like that of condensation on cold glass—is best seen in thin films that allow the mono-layer of glass beads to be illuminated on a light colored ground.
Heavy Gel - Blend with colors to increase body. Heavy Gels have a thicker consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors. Good for holding peaks. Dries translucent.
High Solid Gel - Makes colors feel more oil-like and increases retention of brushstrokes. High Solid Gel has a thicker consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors, while being similar to Extra-Heavy Gels. Offers higher lower shrinkage and dries to the touch quicker than most Gels. Good for holding peaks. Available in Gloss or Matte.
Pumice Gels - For textural effects. Pumice Gel allows you to add varying degrees of texture that dry to a cement hard yet flexible finish. Increase flexibility by adding heavy bodied gel products. Available in Coarse, Extra-Course and Fine.
Regular Gel - Holds moderate peaks and texture. Regular Gels have the same creamy consistency as GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors. Ideal for extending paint and regulating translucency without changing the consistency of the Heavy Body and Matte colors. The Regular Gel Gloss is ideal for glazing and other techniques where transparency is desired. Also available in Matte and Semi-Gloss.
Self Leveling Clear Gel - Produces an even film with excellent clarity. This gel has a unique resinous, stringy consistency resulting from the leveling property. This product dries to a flexible, high gloss film, which can increase the transparency and sheen, while imparting a leveling quality to other GOLDEN Acrylic products.
Soft Gel - Moderately pourable and holds slight peaks. Soft Gels are thinner than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors. The recommended acrylic to function as a glue for collaging. Soft Gel Gloss is ideal for glazing and other techniques where transparency is desired. Useful as a non-removable isolation coat, applied over the painting and before the varnish (must be thinned with water—2 parts Gel to 1 part water). Available in Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte.
