Playing with Canvas by Heather Goldstein

  Do you ever feel stuck? That may be a ridiculous question because I can't think of any artist whose creative juices are always flowing. One of the best things an artist can do, in my opinion, is to PLAY and try something new! Sometimes I find that I get so involved in developing my concepts and making sure the painting I am working on will fit in the series I am trying to create and say what I want it to say, that my brain just shuts off and says, "NO MORE!" Oil vs. Acrylic by Heather Goldstein

Oils and Acrylics are like oil and water...LITERALLY! For someone just starting out at painting or a painter wanting to change mediums, knowing which is better is usually the first question. But the truth is that neither oil nor acrylic is better than the other; they are just suited for different things. I will admit that I may be a bit bias since I am an oil painter, but I definitely see the merit in both. I'm A Cheater! by Heather Goldstein

Yes, I said it, I'm a cheater! I am a young artist and I have only been studying the figure for 3 years, but I have found that if it is something you are passionate about, you will do the work. Any figure painter will tell you the difficulties of proportions. In school we learn a basic canon (i.e. an adult is 6 1/2 to 7- sometimes 8- heads tall, the eyes are half way down the face from the top of the crown to the chin, the nose is 1/3 of the way down from the end of the nose to the chin, etc.).
