September Artist of the Month - Nicholas Rocco

My name is Nicholas Rocco and I have been painting since 2003. I have been illustrating in various ways since i can remember. Art has been my outlet for my entire life. Art is not my professional life. I make very little money doing it, and keep at itbecause it makes me happy. My goal with anything i make is to be smiling at the end. When other people see my art, i just want them to smile with me. It is not my intention to use my art to express my opinions, or make some sort of statement. Remember to Play by Cheryl Whitestone

Philip Morsberger in his studio, August 18, 2010 Recently I visited The Morris Museum of Southern Art in Augusta Georgia with a group of fellow artists and art enthusiasts. The curator generously arranged a studio visit for us with Philip Morsberger .  Philip’s warehouse studio was large and well lit with flourescants, no windows. Using Impasto Medium to Create Three Dimensional Effects by Micah Mullen

In depicting elements in nature relief effects give a 3-dimensional effect that really makes the paint “pop” right off the canvas.  In this painting technique I am using Matisse Structure paint (Carbon Grey) along with Matisse Impasto Medium to create tree bark.Step 1:  I mix a ratio of about 30% paint with 70% Impasto Medium.  Make sure the mixture is throughly mixed (I use a palette knife) when complete the mixture should be the color of the paint.
