What Works for You? by Deb Bartos

I’m now doing a seasonal blog for Jerry’s (four times a year) as this works for me. Winter is the perfect time for soul-searching, organizing,  and removing the clutter to make room for the new life that appears in spring. I’ve always liked to look at life in seasons, and love them all. They all have their own beauty, and their changing nature reminds me first that change is possible and secondly, not to take the present for granted, as of course, it doesn’t last. Art as Play by Deb Bartos

Thinking about how much we have invested in art materials and frames, can lead to careful but un-inspired work.  Painting from reference materials (even your own, hopefully they ARE your own) can also produce nothing but stagnation. Before I start a new piece, I usually ask myself, “Why am I painting this?” If I have a good reason, it usually achieves much better results than slavishly copying something that inspired me when I saw it on location. No Painting is Safe! by Deb Bartos

No painting of mine is safe, that is, until its hanging on someone else’s wall. There are just a few, actually, that are sacred, for personal reasons, and I will never touch again.However, there are quite a few of them that go in the “gosh, there is just something not quite right with that work” pile and with time, I see what it is.
