Staedtler Drawing and Drafting Materials
Although the Staedtler company was not officially formed until 1835, records dating back to 1662 in the city of Nuremburg, Germany, list Friedrich Staedtler as a pencil maker. J.S. Staedtler kept the family tradition alive and in 1835 he officially received permission to start producing blacklead, pastel pencils and red chalk. By 1840 the company was manufacturing over 60 different kinds of pencils, and as they say, the rest is history! Today Staedtler produces much more than pencils, creating fine products for artists, craftsmen, draftsmen and writers.
